Child Attendance

Child Attendance

Managing attendance is an important part of your responsibilities as a STEM Tech Club presenter. Some schools require you to notify them if a child is absent, while others do not. Here’s how to handle attendance properly:

1. Confirm Attendance Reporting Procedure on Your First Session

  • Ask the School Office: At the beginning of your first session, check with the school office to confirm if they want to be notified if a child is absent. This will help you know the protocol for each session.
  • Note Their Preferences: Make sure you get clear instructions on how they prefer to be notified (if required).

2. If No Notification is Required

  • No Further Action Needed: If the school does not require you to notify them of absences, then no further action is necessary.
  • Take the Register Anyway: Regardless of the school’s policy on notifications, always take the register with you to the session. This is important for your and STEM Tech Club’s records.

3. If Notification is Required

  • Clarify How to Notify the School: If the school does want to be notified of absences, ask them how they would like you to notify them, since you won’t be able to leave the classroom.
  • Possible Notification Options:
    • Use a Telephone: If a phone is available in the classroom, you may be able to call the school office directly to report any absences.
    • Send Students to the Office: In some cases, the school might ask you to send two children to the office to notify the staff of any absences. Ensure this is done discreetly and in a way that does not disrupt the session.

By following these steps and confirming the school’s attendance reporting preferences, you will help maintain good communication with the school and ensure accurate records are kept for all students.
